First, I would not leave any baby alone for a few days. Too many things can go wrong.
Second, no pet should be left totally alone for days at a time. Someone needs to be checking in at least once per day. What if a lamp burns out, or the pet develops some health problem you didn't know about?
I suggest that you find a friend who is willing to do a daily check. Leave a list of things to pay attention to. Leave the name and number of a vet as well as contact information for you.
It's a good idea to contact the vet yourself before you go to authorize payment in case of an emergency. Some vets will accept a note, others may have a form for you to fill in. I know one person who left a note that said, "Please give my pet the best possible care. I will mortgage the house when I get back." You might not have a house to mortgage, and you might not want to mortgage a house to tend to a pet, but it's good to think ahead and say what you would be willing to do.
Keep it slow and steady.

Tortoise care by: robaloie
I would recommend finding some one who could at least change the water bowl after one or two days. Also, you may want to adjust the lighting fixtures so they get mostly natural light during the day, with only a heat lamp on consistently. Otherwise timers work well. Feeding the tortoises for a couple days is possible by having lots of alfalfa or Timothy hay in the tank.

No, in taking in a pet, you must provide care for them while your away. Please ask a friend, family or contact your nearest pet shop to see if they provide day care for your pet. While it May survive while your gone, unless your pet is in hibernation and your type doesn't hibernate...you must think ahead and at least have someone look in on it to see if she/he is ok....
