Cracked Desert Tortoise Shell

My 3 year old desert tortise got run over by a car. I washed him in distilled water, poured periode over him and then put aloe on the shell and wrapped him in gause changed him every two days. Day four poured betadine on shell and left gauze off. His appetite is off today and I am so worried. My vet is out of town until the 9th of Sept. This happened last Sunday it has been 4 days? The crack is on the top in the middle by his head and a little crushed shell on the side but no flesh came out. Is there anything else I can do?

Cracked Shell

Today, Sept. 8, our tortoise was run over. We took it straight to a specialist. He was moving around in the box and seemed ok but his shell is cracked. No matter what happens, I am glad I read this blog on my way home from work to see how bad it was, I started looking for the nearest specialist right away, didn't waste time trying to go somewhere that woudn't treat him.

I am so sorry to hear about your pet.

You have to get to a vet as soon as possible. Don't wait for your vet to come back. Find someone else. There can be injuries internally. There can be infection you can't see. Only a professional can help you.

The fact that your tortoise is not improving means it's time to get help.

On the blog, there is a pet cost calculator. At the bottom of it is a link to some pet insurance. This might be something you want to consider in the future. Of course in the mean time, you need to get the help your pet needs.
