Happy Tortoise?

I got my Tortoise 2 days ago his shell is still soft and I don't know if he or she is happy. How can I tell? And I'm trying to figure out what I should feed him or her.

I had a red ear slider, sadly it died, but there's still hope for your tortise! maybe he or she has a different problem, yet again, i was eight and didn't know what to do. best of luck <3.
