Missing scales

I have a leopard tortoise, who had a small patch of scales missing from from the sole of her back left foot. This has only appeared recently but now seems to be getting bigger. It doesn't seem to be causing her any discomfort and she can walk as normal, I am concerned that it may be something to worry about. Any ideas what the problem is?
