Mucous from turtles?

My dog was outside barking furiously and when I went outside there was a snapping turtle lying next to her with a mucous all over it. My dog also had mucous hanging off of her mouth. I took my dog in and 2 days later my dog acts like she isn't feeling well. My question is do turtles excrete a poisonous mucous to defend themselves?
