Hi, is the turtle in a proper tank with UV and UVB lighting, with proper wattage and distance, over tank, example over a screen covered lid for tank, good quality heater for water set at mid 70's to low 80's depending on age of the turtle, I use red infer light at night, white incandescent light for day 12 hours and switch to red at night, keeps basking dock warm. very good Fluval (example) filter, 2 1/2 times the size of tank and water level. Keep cool spots for him to get out of water where is is not as hot,, calcium fortified pellets are a good choice. Don't over feed, or under feed. Do a weekly water change and vac 25per cent to keep nitrates and ammonia level in the normal range. Have it tested at pet store. once a month clean one part of the pump, and alternate, depending on what kind you have. Now the one thing that is important to start with is he or she healthy, eyes wide and open, no respiratory problems, with breathing and bubbles from nose... Al's aquarium can be a good reference to ask questions. No drafts where the tank is, that will help, not too cold from air conditioner, if close to a vent, close that vent in room..you don't want to create moisture in tank that can't escape, they will get a cold....careful monitoring and temp checks in tank, and water testings, and changes, and remember takes about 4-6 weeks to get a balance in the echo system, they need a watchful eye..That should help to have a happy turtle...I hope this has been some help.. Sincerely, Susan.
