Is this normal? we are watching a tortoise for my son's teacher. She is out of town and I am afraid it may be hurt. OR it may be its sexual organ? If so is this a female and is it ok

thats not a penis.

be careful. talk to a vet who is specialized in your particular species of tortoise. i say this because i had the same thing happen with my tortoise and now having seen your pics, both of us have been misinformed i think. my russian laid eggs. AND this thing comes out of her as well. what am i to think now? my egg laying female has a penis? do let me know if you find anythig out.

Yes, this is a prolapse or the male sexual organ. If it does not go back in on its own, take this animal to the vet.

It's a Male?!!

I think it's showing it's male parts? My turtle has black things that come out sometimes on both sides of the tail. It looks different from your teacher's turtle. When my turtle shows his parts, he goes crazy in his tank (swimming crazy into the sides of the tank), then you see the black come out. I assume it's his male sexual part? You will have to ask the teacher if she has seen it do that in the past. If this part stays out, then I'd be worried about him.
