Star Tortoise Does'nt Eat

Please help me, why my star tortoise does'nt want to eat. Her age is about 5 month. She only sleeping all the day and only eat very2 little. When i'm buying her, she is aggresive and love to eat but now, she don't want to eat.


I'm very worried about that. please help me. thanks

I have a indian star tortoise which is 3 years old... so we consulted a vet(not expert) But the He is now not opening his eyes from 4 days and have not eaten from 4 days. I'm trying everything but he is not opening his eyes. I feel like he has got weak as havent eaten anything. What to do now? Please help me. I want him to be well like before. I love him very much. Please someone help !

I have a 6 years old star tortoise.From yesterday evening he/she is not eating anything.I tried soaking in luke warm water but it walks out of the tray.It bobbleheads in front of the food and walks away from the food.Mostly rests at his commonplace and if I put him in front of food he again walks to his commonplace and rests.
The habitat is kind of natural.Sunlight is directly available and the space is abundant with plenty of plants under which he can hide or take shelter and can feel cool during day times.
temperature is around 90 F.

Hello Sir/Ma'am. I've an Indian Star Tortoise. He's 11 years old. Uptil August 2018 he used to eat daily and also used to drink water but from August end he has stopped eating and he continues to sleep whole day and after a week he wakes up for a minute just roam a bit and again he sleeps.
Please help me I'm really worried about him. I love him alot and I hope nothing should happen to him.

Star tortoise dont like touching frequently,
Dont soak them in water frequently, do it once a month,
For bathing soak in lukewarm water keep level till lower part of shell , for 2 mins only
avoid soaking in water in winter n rainly.
keep a basking light for 24 hrs a 40volt bulb 30 cm above his shelter.
Keep a resting burrow ,
Give him a proper captivity,
Never feed tortoise refrigerated food, avoid cucumber tomatoes in winter.

i had 2 star turtle, one died as othr one used to bite him a lot. nbefore that other one was very active, and used to eat and roam. now after first one died, other one has stopped eating, for many days to days he is not eating anything, please help. i am keeping him in sunlight also, and also give all greeen leafy vegies to eat, still dont eat

Your animal is very sick and should see a reptile vet. It may need intravenous feeding.

It absolutely needs sunlight (not through a window) several hours each day. It also needs access to shade so it can regulate its body temperature.

Most important, it needs medical attention.

 Indian star tortoise behaving weird

So I have a indian star tortoise which is 18 months old. We keep it in our home and take him outside for 2-3 hours a day. Till here everything was fine. 1. Make sure the temperature is good for your tortoise.

2. Make sure your tortoise gets at least 8 hours in direct sunshine each day (not through a window). If you can't do direct sunshine, you need proper tortoise lighting.

3. Make sure your tortoise is eating enough calcium.

If you are doing all this, and the tortoise is not well, see a vet immediately.

Your tortoise should be soaking in water every day. The water should come only to the base of the shell. This tortoise also needs to see a veterinarian.

Hi,

My star male tortoise is not eating any food by himself. He needs to feeds everytime.If i dont feed him he remains hungry but dont eat of his own and also move from one place to another quite often. I have also visited VET, According to him he is habituated to it. He said don't make habit of feeding.

I would like to know , what is wrong with my tortoise, why he is not eating by his own. Is there any problem with him?? or he is lazy ??.

You have a very sick star tortoise. It should see a vet as soon as possible. It is not possible on the Internet to say how many things may be wrong, but a tortoise that is not walking or eating properly is seriously ill. You MUST continue feeding it. Also, keep putting it in water to soak. (Water that comes to the bottom of the shell.) Be sure it is getting sunlight or a special UVB light. After that, see a vet.

You have to separate these two right away to protect the one that is not sick already. If you don't, it will also become ill and die.

And no its not because of climate . I too belong to india . There may be some reasons why she is not eating .
1. Because she might be new in ur house
2. Some other tortoise might be new in ur house.
3. If you took her out and she wants to go out again.
4. She is bored eating old food.
So just leave her alone for 1 week and see will be fine

my torty I guess I 1 year apprx. she is active sometimes or sleepy many times but she know the changes in climate. if they feel hot...they will be awake but not active and vice a versa (I have observed this).but this lil tantrum queen demand new thing every day...loves to share my blanket n wants to sleep on ma bed! I leave her in tree planters in sun but only 15 mins...(coz stay in flats no enough sunlight) she is becoming choosy....n yes I do give her warm water bath mostly everyday(in private...shes shy) in india its winter so she loves sleeping .....but eating is making me tense!!!!!!!!!!! she eats very very less n I don't have any herps near by.....plz help

see these days in winter . tortoise might have cold and even cough. they are not pon to desease but they can get cold and cough . The signs are as follows : bubbles in nose
water comming out of nose
and doesnt eat in after stages
to stop this u need to keep him in sun every dae in winter u can also buy a uvb sun spot .
and also buy him some nutrient food.

Bubbles from the nose is extremely serious. Get to a vet asap. Also, raise the temperature one or two degrees.

Your tortoise needs sunlight. that's direct sunlihgt, not light through the window. It needs LOTS fo sunlight.

It needs to soak in warm -- not hot -- water every day.

It needs to eat the food that's good for it. That would be NO fruit. Lots of grass. NO protein from animals and little protein from plants.

Brionni, i am having the same problem. I got mine on Friday (3 days ago). On the way home and for the first 24 hours he/she ate like crazy, wondered, etc.
But now he/she just hides in the corner and doesn't do anything. He/she doesn't seem to want to eat, drink, anything.

Is he/she ok?
Should i be worried?
Is it just settling?
Do i need another to keep this one company?
or is something wrong?

Any advice is needed.

i built a terrarium and leave her outside so that she have so much time to enjoy the sunlight like your advice, thanks to that now she active again.

A star tortoise does not usually do well inside.

It is absolutely necessary for your tortoise to be in direct sunlight for at least 8 hours every day.

The calcium is important.

Some info about my tortoise -:

1. i gave my tortoise green vegetable such as mustard at morning and evening, there no addition on vitamin and calcium on her diet, i'm afraid to add because she is to small and will result overdose of calcium

2. every two days i will give my tortoise access to sunlight

3.there is also small pool so that she can soak herself.

4.My room temperature is about 36 celsius/ 95 F so i don't think i need a heater

How i want to make her active and eat again...
