Sulcata Tortoise question

hi, i am buying a sulcata and just got its tank set up and i am using medium sized pebbles/rocks as substrate and a MASSIVE dish as a food/water dish, i was wondering, as long as the tortoise doesn't eat on the pebbles, will it be fine, the pebbles are very round so, if they did eat a pebble, would it pass?

Thank You.

sulcata hatchling substrate
by: Shelly

The substrate for a baby would be bark. It will hold moisture, and sulcatas don't need much moisture, so be sure to watch the temperature.

I'm glad the Web site is helpful to you.

thank you, i know we can't keep it in a tank forever, i was just keeping it in one when it was a hatching, then upgrading to a tortoise table, then it would go in the backyard.
thank you this website has ansewred many of my questions, thank you.

Sulcata Housing

A sulcata will grow to be about 200 pounds. A tank isn't going to do you much good. This tortoise needs to be in a large yard with a secure cement fence.

I don't know about the pebble issue. In the wild, these tortoises live where there are pebbles, and they do fine, but they don't live on only pebbles.

Keep it slow and steady.
