Turles versus Rain in 3 days

Have you ever heard the statement that if you see a turtle crossing the road you can expect rain in three days in that area nearby?

The reasoning been that they are trying to go to higher ground or something. I can't seem to find out info on this and I am trying to write a story about turtles in my correpondance course!
Hope you can help with this question, I don't own a turtle, I just like to know if this tale is true! It sure seems to work as a sign while I was growing up in Texas
