my turle has just shed a bit of its shell, how much do they shed their shells? its shedding looks like a burnt leaf and a bit of its new shell is yellow! is this ok?

It is very dangerous to put a sick turtle or tortoise into hibernation. If you do not have a local vet you can consult on this question, you can ask a vet online, You have to pay, but it would be worth it. Copy and paste the link here to find a form that will take you to the online vet.
12/11/11 my turtle is about one years old and she has a soft shell. i was wondering what i could do to help her im giving her sunlight and food that has calcium but shes not eating because she is in hibernation mode so pleas tell me what i can do. p.s. i have another turtle that is healthy and nothing is wrong with him.

Your turtle is not getting a proper diet. Do not feed your turtle lettuce. Buy turtle food at the pet food store. It needs to be in the sunlight for 10 minutes a day. Too much direct sun will kill it, but it does need sunlight to be healthy. Doing these two things will help the shell be stronger in a week.

Your turtle is not getting enough calcium. You need to provide proper lighting and enough calcium. Without either, your turtle will eventually die.
