White Line on Tortoise Shell

White Line on Tortoise Shell

Hi, i have a Russian land tortise, and i just noticed she has this white line that goes around her shell, i have a UVA heat light on her, and her diet is mostly mustard/turnip greens, squash, carrots, and occasionally a little Apple, and i feed her every other day, whats wrong with her?

Tortoises require UVB light. Your uva heat light does not supply that. //Please// invest in this. Get a tube light, not a coil. UVB is needed to use and absorb calcium. Without this UVB light and calcium, reptiles can/will develop Metabolic Bone Disease, causing sickness and/or death. A tube light such as a Reptisun 10.0 will work, when on at the same time as the day lights, and no light at night.

That is a growth line and completely normal! Although, that growth line is thicker than it should be, are you certain you are feeding it a proper healthy diet?

what kind of calcium do i need? i give my leopard gecko some calcium powder called Zoo Med's Reptivite without D3 and i put that on its crickets, or is there some type of food i should give her?

Yes he may need more calcium, but it looks like he's growing rapidly, you may need to not give him to much food during each meal. Also variety goes along way , some of these types of Tortosies may only eat every three days.
